About Me

My photo
I'm just a new wife who has an obsession with my sewing machine! In Oct. 2010, my mother and I created my first sewing project - Euro pillow shams. I was hooked! I read everything I could get my hands on that had to do with sewing! Books, magazines, online tutorials. I experimented and found that I get so much enjoyment from making quilts, and that it's where I found my niche. I'm still a beginner, but I've learned so much in just 5 short months, that I want to share it with someone!

Classic Pinwheel Tutorial

I love Strawberry Fields :).

It reminds me of summer, root beer floats, s'mores, and hot days at the beach.

So, here is a quick and easy tutorial to show you what you can do with a couple charm squares and this cute fabric :).

Materials

2 Charm squares of Strawberry Fields by Fig Tree and Co. for Moda

2 Charm squares of Bella Solids in Natural

Rotary Cutter and Mat

Ruler

Sewing Machine

1/4 inch seam foot

Matching thread - I used white cone thread that can be found on Connecting Threads.

Okay, so on your two Strawberry Fields charm squares, lay your ruler down and draw a line through the middle on both squares.

Lay one Strawberry Fields square on top of one solid square.

Sew on either side of your line, 1/4 inch away.

Lay your ruler with the line you drew and cut with your rotary cutter.

Press all your seams in one direction.

Trim your points.

And lay your half-square-triangles out in the shape of a pinwheel.

Now, sew your top half-square-triangles to your bottom half-square-triangles.

Press your seams in opposite directions and sew your two halves together.

Press your seam.

And you're finished!

This block is so versatile. If you use this tutorial for a project, I would love to see your finished work!

I have created a Flickr group where you can show off projects you have created using my tutorials! Hop on over and show off here.

Happy Quilting!
